The Refugee Women's Alliance

The Refugee Women’s Alliance (ReWA)

The Refugee Women’s Alliance (ReWA) is a multi-ethnic, community-based organization that provides comprehensive culturally and linguistically appropriate services to refugee and immigrant communities throughout King and Snohomish Counties. ReWA, formerly known as Southeast Asia Women’s Alliance (SEAWA), was founded in 1985 by a group of successfully resettled women who sought to provide newly arrived women with services not available from other agencies.

From a small, informal alliance of concerned refugee women, ReWA has grown to become one of the largest non-profit refugee and immigrant service providers in the Puget Sound area. Our programs are developed to respond to the complex needs of refugee and immigrant women and their families with the primary goal of making a positive and long-lasting impact on their lives. Today, ReWA operates from 10 sites in King and Snohomish Counties, and is comprised of more than 140 staff members with the capability of speaking 37 different languages and dialects. Many of our staff are refugees or immigrants. They work together to deliver bilingual and bicultural services to help our clients gain English and job-related skills, find employment, maintain stability, and eventually thrive in their adoptive country.

ReWA provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services for our program participants, including Early Childhood Education, Mental Health Counseling, Anti-Human Trafficking Education and Outreach, Citizenship and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, Family Support, and Employment Programs. In 2012, ReWA served more than 34,000 refugees and immigrants, including information and referral services. In 2012, ReWA helped 602 clients learn English and 505 families with job placement assistance to find employment with livable wages and benefits. Since June 2012, we have already helped over 516 youth succeed in high school through academically focused services and enrichment activities. For 28 years, ReWA has helped tens of thousands of global refugees who are resettled in the Puget Sound area, by providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services to help them succeed in their adoptive country.
